Hammurabi's Code and Lockdown

Today in school we had our first lockdown. At first I got really scared because I thought that it was real but after I realized that it wasn't real it was kind of funny. For homework we had to look up three of Hammurabi's laws and write about them so here are three that I picked. One is "If any one is committing a robbery and is caught, then he shall be put to death." I think it is bad to steal and all but I think that's kind of extreme. Another one is "If a son strike his father, his hands shall be hewn off." I think that this law is weird because why would some kid hit his father? But if the kid does hit his father its kind of extreme to cut off his hand. The third rule I found is "if a man knock out the teeth of his equal, his teeth shall be knocked out." That law seems really stupid because when would that even happen? Also, who would make a law up about them. Overall, some of these laws seem really weird and extreme.
